Sound healing that boosts dopamine, lowers cortisol, and makes us feel great.
Gong master and sound alchemist Taran Gong joins us for the 4th installment of CARAVANA Freethinkers 2021 Edition. Through his mastery, we explore his knowledge of the powerful healing technique of sound.
The art of healing- be it spiritual or physical- is an undertaking many aspire to achieve, and few can. In the realm that Taran works in, one must hold space for many different kinds of human beings in various phases of their lives. It is an enriching, fulfilling practice, and Taran curates these therapeutic moments of sound beautifully.
Here we listen to Taran and the hidden soundwaves of this restorative practice.
What about sound healing inspired you to curate the experience for others? First, my own experience- I was going through complicated and severe medical conditions for the past three years, without being able to walk for extended periods unless with a walking stick or an orthopedic walker. After three surgeries, suddenly, I found the Gong while I was doing my Kundalini Yoga teacher training. The sound healing helped my body to realign on a cellular level to heal itself. Combining a meditation practice was a fantastic way to heal and transform my life 360 degrees, integrating my emotions and with that I felt the need to expand this to others.
How did you find your way to this part of Mexico, and what made you call this place home? I dreamt of living in the Riviera Maya for many years; however, I was not prepared. I was living in London but when I made up my mind to chase my dreams, I decided to tune in to the right frequency, paths opened, and in that way, I overcame my fears. I call this place home due to the amazing synchronicity with other souls that resonate entirely with what I believe in. This place is where I found my inner self and the place where I reconnect with my cosmic family.
For beginners to sound healing, can you explain a little bit how sounds and frequencies can affect our energetic and physical states and the origins of sound healing? Many of us recognize that music has the power to improve our mood and reduce stress. We all have felt how listening to our favorite music somehow has a healing effect on our souls. Sound healing has real health benefits. It boosts dopamine, lowers cortisol, and it makes us feel great.
“ Sound vibrations, though invisible, directly affect our inner being, able to invoke trance-like states or kindle peaceful communion with the divine.“
About its origins, many of us recognize that music has the power to improve our mood and reduce stress. There is no doubt that listening to our favorite music somehow changes our perspective and has a healing effect on our souls. Sound healing dates back to prehistoric times when shamans chanted and drummed to heal people. In the ancient schools of Greece, India, Egypt, and other centers of knowledge, the use of sound vibrations and music for healing was a highly developed sacred science.
“Singing the mantra Om (Aum) is an excellent way to unwind, or you can energize your mind by using chants.”
Are there some ways that we can incorporate sound healing into our healing and meditation practices in the space of our own homes? Yes, of course. Everything in nature vibrates at different frequencies. Scientific studies describe the universe as nothing more than vibrating strings of energy. You can incorporate it into your daily practice by just being present and aware of the sounds surrounding you, just being the observer without judgment. I suggest that people try using their voice, one of the most powerful and effective sound therapy instruments. Singing the mantra Om (Aum) is an excellent way to unwind, or you can energize your mind by using chants. Alternatively, there are many high-frequency music or videos on the internet that you can use while doing your meditation practices at home.
What aspects of doing energy work and healing others can be challenging? Not all people are always open to receive and sometimes their energy can be pretty intense while channeling because they don’t know how to deal with or integrate their emotions. To keep myself balanced, I use the power of love to return to a state of Oneness. Being an observer, integrating my emotions (dark & light), practicing self-care, self-awareness, and self-love. I also meditate before every session to set myself in neutral.
